Copy the words immediately before and after the printed number. A date without its label can be ambiguous.
A manufacturing number identifies a batch. It does not supply a universal public formula for a hidden date.
Storage instructions, cautions, market version, package condition, and the responsible business still matter.

Paste one or two visible lines. The reader looks for a use-by field, period after opening, manufacturing date, batch number, and date-shaped text. It does not send the text to a server.
Copy only the package wording around the date. Leave out your name, address, order number, and health details. The text stays in this browser tab and is not included in analytics events.

SOURCE-CHECKED FIELD GUIDE
English shoppers often search for a Korean skincare “expiration date.” The current Korean Cosmetics Act uses the more specific term “use-by date,” and it lists several nearby fields that can look like the answer at first glance. This guide keeps those fields separate.
The Korean Cosmetics Act defines a use-by date as the minimum period from manufacture during which consumers can safely use a cosmetic with its particular characteristics preserved under appropriate storage conditions. Article 10 lists the use-by date or period after opening among the statements carried on Korean cosmetic packaging, together with fields such as the product name, responsible business, ingredients, contents, batch number, and cautions.
On the package, start with the exact word. 사용기한 identifies the field. A nearby string such as 2028.06.30 is the visible date. 까지 means “until” or “up to,” so 사용기한 2028.06.30까지 can be read as a use-by statement ending on that printed date. Keep the full line in view. 까지 by itself does not tell you whether the number is a use-by date, a promotion date, or part of another sentence.
EXP, EXPIRY, EXPIRES, or USE BY can appear on an export sticker or English panel. Those words are useful orientation clues, but the sticker still belongs to a particular market version. Match the sticker to the product name, amount, directions, and business information on the complete box or container. A loose screenshot of a date is weaker evidence than the package in your hand.
개봉 후 사용기간 means “period after opening.” It answers a different question from a fixed use-by line because its clock starts when the package is opened. The Korean law also states that when a period after opening is shown, the manufacturing date is stated. That pairing lets a reader distinguish the date when the product was made from the period that begins with first use.
A package may express the period in Korean months, for example 12개월, or use a month-style mark such as 12M. Read the manufacturer’s complete wording rather than copying a month count from a different product. Formulas, containers, intended uses, and market labels differ. The reader above identifies a likely period-after-opening clue and repeats the visible number. It does not start a timer or promise that the product will remain in good condition for that whole period.
If you want to track first use, write the opening date somewhere separate from the statutory print. Do not cover the lot number, directions, or cautions. When a product has been shared, left open, exposed to heat, or handled with a used applicator, the handwritten date cannot describe everything that happened to the contents.
제조연월일, 제조일자, and 제조일 are manufacturing-date labels. MFG, MFD, or MANUFACTURED can play a similar role on an English panel. A manufacturing date is useful for identifying the package’s timeline. It does not produce a use-by deadline through a universal “add three years” rule. The official sources used for this page do not provide one public calculation that can be applied to every Korean cosmetic.
When you see only a manufacturing date, look elsewhere on the outer box and primary container for 사용기한 or 개봉 후 사용기간. Search the responsible business’s current product page using the exact product and market version. If the print is rubbed off, photographed incompletely, or covered by a retailer’s sticker, ask the brand or authorized seller for the specific package rather than borrowing a deadline from a review page.
Numeric formats can also be misread. The tool recognizes year-first forms such as 2028.06.30, 2028-06-30, and 2028년 6월 30일 because the year is explicit. It intentionally avoids guessing whether a short form such as 06/07/28 means June 7, July 6, or another convention. Ambiguity should create a question, not a confident conversion.
Article 10 lists the batch number as its own package field. The code helps a responsible business identify a production lot when a customer asks about a particular unit. A batch number can contain letters, numbers, punctuation, or an internal date structure. The public law does not publish a universal decoding formula shared by every brand.
This is why the date reader reports “batch or lot number” and stops. It does not convert SAMPLE-A7X92 into a manufacture date, search a private database, or call the code proof of authenticity. A printed lot field can be copied onto counterfeit packaging, and a genuine code can be mistyped into an unofficial checker. The seller, responsible distributor, or brand is the appropriate source for a package-specific record.
Keep four things together when you contact them: the full product name, market version, visible date line, and lot code. Add clear photographs of the complete package only through the company’s official support channel. Leave personal health information out of the first message. The practical question is precise: “What does this printed field mean on this exact package?”
The FDA explains that cosmetic shelf life varies with product type, use, and storage. Fingers and applicators can introduce microorganisms. Moisture, heat, sunlight, air, and changes to preservatives can affect the contents. Emulsions can separate, products can dry out, and colour, texture, or smell can change. A printed date cannot record those events.
Inspect the container as well as the calendar. A broken seal, leaking cap, swollen package, damaged pump, or unexplained change deserves attention even when the printed date is in the future. Do not add water or saliva to revive a dried product. Keep containers and applicators clean, and follow the manufacturer’s current storage directions.
Stop using a cosmetic when you have a concerning reaction and seek appropriate medical help for persistent, severe, eye-area, or allergy-related symptoms. This page does not diagnose a reaction or tell an individual whether to resume use. Bring the package, ingredient list, and product details when a qualified professional asks for them.
The FDA states that U.S. law does not generally require cosmetics to carry a specific shelf life or expiration date, while the manufacturer remains responsible for product safety. Some personal-care products sit under drug rules in the United States. Sunscreens and acne treatments can be drugs, and products such as moisturizers with SPF can be both cosmetics and drugs. Drug labeling has different expiration requirements.
That difference is a reason to read the market version rather than transplanting one country’s rule onto another package. A Korean use-by field does not become FDA approval. A U.S. Drug Facts panel does not erase the Korean label on the product sold in Korea. Travellers and cross-border shoppers should keep the product name, seller, receipt, and full label together.
After identifying the date field, use the full K-Beauty Label Reader for ingredients, responsible-business wording, directions, cautions, functional-cosmetic terms, and marketing claims. That second pass answers a different question: what else is the package telling you before a trend video, shelf sign, or translated product title compresses the context?
QUICK ANSWERS
제조 means manufacture. Read the complete phrase: 제조연월일 or 제조일 identifies a manufacturing date, while 제조번호 identifies a batch number.
까지 means “until” or “up to.” It supports the reading only when the nearby field identifies what the date represents, such as 사용기한.
This reader does not apply a universal shelf-life number. Find the package’s use-by or period-after-opening wording or ask the responsible business about the exact product.
A batch code identifies a production lot. It does not provide a universal public date formula or prove authenticity by itself.
The date does not describe storage, contamination, package damage, or personal suitability. Check the condition and stop use when a concerning reaction occurs.
